Who we are

The Volunteer Youth Corps is a voluntary, non-government and not-for–profit company made up of a group of dynamic young people who dedicate their time talents and energy towards the development of the health, economic and social sectors in Guyana.

Where we came from

On December 14, 1996, Volunteer Youth Corps (VYC) was launched. VYC was launched against a backdrop of deteriorating care in the health sector and in particular at Guyana’s primary health care institution- GeorgetownHospital. VYC started out as a group of youth going to GeorgetownHospital providing psychosocial support to people hospitalized mainly from low income or middle-income families.

The daily operations fall under the mandate of 13 staff and 30 Volunteers/Mentors. The company is governed by a Board of Directors. The 11-member board is comprised of a strong multi-disciplinary team of professionals with established track-record in their respective field of expertise.

What are we about?

Our mission is “to make a positive contribution towards the development of children and youth through access to health, social and economic support necessary for improved quality of life”.
