About Project

Among the main objectives of the project include: the provision of technical assistance to the National Coordinating Coalition to strengthen its network of civil society organizations for greater impact and sustainability of the national HIV response, increase CSOs capacity to advocate for critical issues and to strengthen partnerships with the Government of Guyana in order to promote an enabling environment for CSOs.

With the assistance of USAID HIV/AIDS funded interventions, the Coalition was first premiered as a committee in 1999 with responsibility for oversight and coordination. Through ongoing organizational strengthening and technical capacity building, these NGOs were better equipped to provide a spectrum of services to Guyanese affected and infected with HIV and particularly key populations. To grant will ensure its sustainability, strengthen its capacity to advocate on behalf of groups and ensure its place in the national HIV response.

The Guyana Civil Society Leadership (GCSL) project supports USAID’s overall strategy which falls under the Development Objective (DO) “Public Health Response to HIV/AIDS Strengthened” and directly contributes to the achievement of Sub IR 2.2: “Enabling Environment for Human Rights and HIV Policy Improved”.
