About Project

The National Career Guidance Program has been running in Georgetown secondary schools since 2013. After the successful implementation in 4 schools during the 2014-2015 school year, in 2015-2016 the Career Guidance Program has planned an expansion to a total of 10 high schools in Georgetown. In 2016 we celebrated our 20th anniversary of operation. Currently we operate the Career Guidance Program in ten schools across Georgetown.

The Guyana Ministry of Education has approved the program in the following schools during 2016-17:

* Central High School

* Charlestown Secondary School

* Dolphin Secondary School

* Richard Ishmael Secondary

* St. John’s College

* St. Joseph’s High School

* St. Mary’s High School

* St. Rose’s High School

* Tucville High School

* Tutorial High School

There are two courses being offered through the Career Guidance Program. Year 1 is being offered to third form students at all ten secondary schools. This curriculum of 15 lessons explores topics such as decision making, goal setting, job search tools, and skills for workplace success. In Year 2, which is being administered to fourth form where students build on these skills through re-evaluating their career goals, improving their CV and cover letter writing, and addressing more complex issues of rights and responsibilities in the workplace. The Year 2 course is 12 lessons long in order to accommodate for students intensifying their studies in preparation for their CXCs.

Voluntary Youth Corps assists teachers with training and materials. In addition VYC organizes a science and math youth camp along with two conferences during the school year.
