In February, 2020, the Volunteer Youth Corps Inc. (VYC) with aid from Japan’s Grant Assistance for
Grassroots Human Security Human Security Projects (GGP), secured assistance to renovate and
expand its Youth Centre in Georgetown, Guyana. The grant totalled at USD95,269.93 was given to
cover the building construction from two (2) floors to three (3). However, an additional sum of
USD30,000 is needed to complete the renovation.
The construction officially commenced on April 1, 2020 and to date is 65% completed. VYC projects
that work will conclude in early August, 2020; before the reopening of the schools. The organisation
is in dire need of additional financial assistance (of any kind) from the wider community to realise this
vision. This expansion will help an additional 500 STEM students to access services at the centre,
while providing them with improved and comfortable classrooms for learning. It is our goal to have a
modernized and spacious environment for staff, students, teachers, parents and visitors. VYC
anticipates that upon completion of the renovation students across our programs will be able to
directly participate in programs at the centre.
All donations can be made to the Organization’s account at Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Ltd.
