In-school Prevention (A focus on Sexual Health and Peace education) - The 6 Schools that VYC have been working with have been most accommodating to the work being executed on site. Though the all administrative staff have not allowed for an extended period with the students we are working with, the students have volunteer some of their time to further interact with facilitators. Most session are done the period before lunch or before dismissal in the afternoon, as such the students have volunteered to remain another 10 -15 minutes to continue working with volunteers especially when sessions are extremely interactive and fun for them. Since the year started, VYC is working with a total of 130 kids at 6 Public and private schools in Georgetown. VYC past a long history of working with schools in regions 4 and 5.
The organisation continued to host after-school sessions at the centre in Lodge. The organisation since the year start as worked with 70 youth daily. The facilitators were able to touch critical issues affecting the youths. These include sessions focusing on addressing peace and managing conflict, HIV and sexual and reproductive health and self esteem development. The organisation is presently, recruiting vulnerable youth in communities to benefit from year long training in the areas listed above. In total the organisation is looking to increase it target of 200 youth last year to 400 youth access on-going services at the centre and in schools.
